About KB

KB’s road to where he is now is a lot different from Sheila’s. Growing up in the westside of Baltimore, KB grew up always being social. He also learned at a young age that it take more energy to be an asshole than to just stay positive and be nice…even when the situation doesn’t call for it.

His dancing journey growing up was looking at the popular music videos and attempting to mimic the moves. He also danced with friends and for a short time was in a group that danced to Baltimore Club Music.

KB’s salsa journey began when engaged to Sheila in an attempt to better connect with her passion. He took lessons at first with the man he calls his ‘sensei’ – Victor Maysonet w/All Out Danza. His trajectory then took a turn when the pandemic hit. His teacher became the area’s salsa community, featuring YouTube.

Along the way of going to socials, KB met a lot of people, some that he loves as his own family. They didn’t agree with his approach of learning, but they were there for him. A degenerate, KB didn’t want to look like others in the scene. So by watching YouTube, keeping his hip-hop and Baltimore Club style and developing a strong foundation from his friends, KB became the social dancer he is now.

But it didn’t stop there.

Always wanting to help the community, KB was given an opportunity to MC at his friend Helena Mambotera’s LaQuimica event as she was performing and couldn’t be in two places at once. That caught the eye of his partner in crime, the legendary DJ MamboSoul.

KB then became KB – The People’s Sidekick.

That name was given to him by his son, Miles. As KB always found a calmness in helping others…not for money, just to help. So Miles viewed him as a ‘sidekick to everyone’ – thus, the sidekick of the people.

From 2023 to June 2025 he was a member of the awesome seven person team known as Team Project Mambo. And every Tuesday night, he’s helping to be that person everyone needs to not feel alone. To have their back and make sure everyone is there for the sole purpose of having a good time.

All the while, the more he danced, the more he loved it and the more he understood it. Recently in overhearing a conversation, he wanted to help again but this time as a DJ.

KB had little experience in doing it, besides his teenage years when he’d mess around with his then brother-in-law’s DJ equipment. But he also knew that he needed to be there just in case a DJ is needed on Tuesdays. So he got the necessary equipment and started practicing. And as he overheard that conversation, he just went to the Muse, Eric Teran and said he wanted to help.

And for a short time, he was the resident DJ for Bodega Sundays.

Right now – KB is one of the driving forces of his own event, ¡ECHALE!

As a student of the game thanks to DJ Mambo Soul, KB developed his own vision of how he thought a social should be. Whether it’s the comic book theme surrounding it, to talking with the people – asking for their input or just switching things up on the fly, he and his team are now supporting the dance community every Tuesday night.

Whether is dancing, supporting others or making sure that everyone is having a good time, KB is in his element. And he doesn’t look like he’s slowing down any time soon.
