Upcoming Events in the DMV

There are tons of events going on in the DMV this week, here are a couple to schedule around in case you’re new to the area or if you need a reminder. Please note that there are plenty other events going on as this area is extremely robust with areas that have regular events. These are the ones that are on our lists as places to go.

KB and Sheila are SWITZERLAND. Meaning that we support everyone as best as we can. But we also feel as people that support the scene that it’s equally as important that EVERYONE (especially promoters/directors/performers/DJ’s) support other events (when they have the time). The ecosystem should be a positive one and one that shows unity.

Here’s what’s happening for the rest of this week:

4/18 – LaQuimica Spring Social

LaQuimica is back hosted by Helena Mambotera and DJ Jody Smooth!!!!

Their LaQuimica spring social will be TONIGHT at the Barking Dog in Bethesda.

Classes start at 8PM with a beginner salsa lesson by that guy, Mr. Steven Jackson (with his shoes on…I think) and Baltimore’s Salsa Sensei (from the Baltimore Salsa Dance Company), Ms. Tabitha!

Then, at 8:45, there will be an intermediate salsa lesson taught by the extremely talented Marsha Bonet of the Phoenix Soul Movement Company.

From 9:30PM to 2AM, the social opens up and the party begins. Spinning will be our friend, the legendary DJ MamboSoul so it’s guaranteed to be a great time.

At 11:30PM, there will be performances and no guarantee that the aforementioned Steven Jackson will have on shoes.

4/19 – Ya Tu SABE

Saturday we have the next installment of Ya Tu SABE at the Twin Valley Distillers in Rockville, hosted by Trevor “El Morenito” Brown, who will also be teaching the class at 9:15PM.

From there, the social kicks off at 10PM with a back-to-back session by DJ MamboSoul.

Great teaching, great music and great beer (take our word for it).

4/20 – Salsa Underground All Vinyl Social

After the all the Easter events and egg hunts are done, we go Underground. Salsa Underground is up and live at the Capital Ballroom in Bethesda.

Salsa lesson is at 5:30PM and the main event rolls around at 6:30PM as spinning the vinyl will be (giving us the back to back to back appearance) Project Mambo’s DJ MamboSoul and representing all things World Dance Festival, DJ Dola.

4/20 – Bodega Sundays

Sunday is also the night to chill.

Bodega Sundays is coming in hot at the Spot in Rockville, presented by the Musecality Dance Studio and it’s founder Eric the Muse, who will start his class at 9:30PM

The music then starts at 10, provided by the ‘Kay’ of KayShei, DJ Sidekick. A heavy Dominican bachata vibe, Bodega Sundays shows flexibility as you could also hear salsa, merengue, dembow or dancehall as well.

4/22 – Project Mambo at the Spot Sheila’s Birthday

We kick off the next week with a “KayShei takeover” of sorts at Project Mambo at the Spot in Rockville

As you saw on the front page, our home event, Project Mambo at the Spot will be host to Sheila’s birthday celebration. To celebrate this, Resident DJ MamboSoul will be taking a much deserved break (as well as his controller that will probably be smoking by then) and KB will be DJ’ing to celebrate his wife as well as friend of the team, DJ La Alemana.

Class starts at 8PM, taught by the Duchess herself, Keelin.

The social then starts at 9PM as we celebrate Sheila’s birthday.
