For The Community
Encendio is going to be our title for when we do a fundraiser. Right now, we are working with the Montgomery County Immigrant Rights Collective with the goal of helping families that unfortunately experienced their loved ones being taken by ICE.
Let’s not mince words. We are here due to our love for Latin dance. So this is definitely a concern, and that’s even though we’re both Americans (Sheila is from Puerto Rico, KB is from Baltimore). We have so many friends that are Latino/Latina. And while we don’t know their situations, it seems like it doesn’t matter to ICE.
The least we can do is help.
So our first fundraising event is this Saturday, March 21st. And all of the proceeds are going directly to the MoCo IRC.
And we’re not doing it alone.
We are so lucky to have some of the best the world has to offer when it comes to performance teams. Few places have dance teams that compete in high schools across a county…let alone middle schools that are starting to do the same. The talent just keeps growing up within our community.
Performing will be a who’s who of dance teams across the DMV!
Montgomery County Public Schools
Three representatives from the Montgomery County Public Schools will be performing. Being that our home event Echale is located in Gaithersburg, not to mention one of the awesome owners we have at the Rising Star Studio is the coach/sponsor of the Gaithersburg High School Latin Dance Team so we can’t wait to see them in action. With them will be North West High School and Watkins Mill High School. All three teams did excellent at the Baila4Life competition.
Acereko Dance Company
One of the newer companies we have in the DMV, Acereko is led by a man that has been in the DMV scene for a long time, Ronald Rios. He will be performing w/the amazing Ximena who is also the coach of the current MCPS Champion, North West High School.
Ferocity Dance Company
Before you hear this amazing bachata team begin to do their thing, you hear that soundbite: FEROCITY. You then know you’re about to see an AWESOME bachata performance. Led by the irresistible force, Kat Arias, this team – year after year continues to be one of the standards when it comes to bachata. Can’t wait to see what they’re going to do next!
The Ardiente Dance Company
Led by two amazing, talented and any other superlative that you want to put in there, David Cuevas & Nelson Ortiz, Ardiente is one of the true flag bearers of our area. And they should be. When you hear that name, you know it’s going to be a great performance. They will have two teams performing and be prepared to be in awe by seeing what they have to offer – greatness.
The Latin Vintage Dance Company
Another flag bearer for the DMV is a team that holds a special place in our hearts as “La Salsera” Sheila B was a member of this team for four years. Like Ardiente, The Latin Vintage Dance Company is synonymous with greatness. Led by the Incomparable Julissa Cruz, all she knows how to do is put together some of the best choreos around. Here at KayShei, we love them and we know you’ll love them too. Representing the team will be Luis and Genesis – a performance you can’t miss.
